I have decided to return to the serious business of drawing..well I say serious, of course it is a discipline and requires careful observation in the pursuit of the line, use of tone and shade. The life class is a task master where the art of seeing as opposed to just looking requires an energy and a tenacity. (`Ways of Seeing` John Berger)
It is easy to convince with a smudgey charcoal line.. however, measured observed proportions cannot be fudged...

Drawing is fun too..Drawing sound was a particularly interesting experience..synthesised sound at that! The act of making marks in response to sound, was impossible to logically process..just had to do it!..and become lost in the interraction between charcoal/pencil/crayon..and the substrate. Wonderful. Absorbing..and therefore meditative..
Drawing is a vehicle through which to record and observe, and also to play and respond..
watch this space!

Assemblages

`Assembages`..a continuation of the Tidal Fragments theme. `Objects conceal within them the events they have witnessed`.

Abandoned and discarded objects, buttons, screws, pottery shards, nuts, bolts and washers, old spoons, coins, forks and buckles. Forgotten fragments reclaimed from beneath the sea washed sand, having been submerged and now recovered with a metal detector. Seemingly insignificant bits and bobs, now arranged and contained and displayed as precious links to the past. Unrelated pieces assembled with consideration to their shared hidden history. Each broken or damaged fragment. each verdigrid coin, ionised button and bell, has a patina, a texture which evidence a journey. The boxes recreate in some way a microcosm of life..wanting to disclose the past.
